This course will highlight changes impacting the skilled nursing industry including elements of the Patient Driven Payment Model (PDPM) which was implemented 10-1-2018 and has been the largest change in post-acute care SNF reimbursement since 1998.

Attendees will gain an understanding of the historical evolution which resulted in changes to the post-acute care SNF reimbursement model. Furthermore, participants will gain an understanding of how Minimal Data Set (MDS) coding serves as determinants for Case Mix Groups (CMGs) reimbursement in the following areas: nursing, therapy, and medical complexities.

1. Explain the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services reasons for changing the historical PPS reimbursement RUGs model

2. Define the Case Mix Group (CMG) criteria for PDPM HIPPS codes

3. Describe CMS potential audit areas as published in the Program Integrity Manual.
